What I do, and what it costs
Gas and LPG heating in Charleville and the surrounding area. Below is what each job actually involves, so you know what you are ringing about.
Gas boiler servicing — €103
The annual service. I check the boiler is burning correctly and venting properly, run a flue gas analysis, check the seals, the pressure and the safety devices, and clean what needs cleaning.
You get a certificate at the end, and the price includes it. Keep it — it is what a boiler warranty and most insurers will ask for.
The photograph is an analyser mid-test. That reading is the part of a service you cannot see afterwards, and it is the part that matters.
Boiler repair — €50, or €80 if there's work in it
No heat, no hot water, a fault code, a boiler that keeps locking out or losing pressure. €50 covers me coming out and having a look. If it is something I can sort there and then, it is €80 for the hour in total — not €50 on top of it.
If it turns out the boiler is past economic repair, I will say so and price a replacement rather than keep charging you to patch it.
Most boilers around here live in a press in the kitchen or the utility, like this one. Worth knowing where yours is before you ring.
A new boiler — from €1,800
€1,800 is a straight like-for-like swap: same type of boiler, same position, no changes to the rest of the system. That is the majority of replacements.
Anything beyond that — moving the boiler, changing from a system boiler to a combi, work on the pipework — I price after I have seen it. I would rather give you a real figure at the door than a low one on the phone.

LPG and Calor — heating off the mains
A lot of houses around Charleville are not on the natural gas network, and run on LPG instead. That is a good part of the work here, and I am Calor approved.
Cylinders for a smaller demand, or a bulk tank where there is the space — above ground or buried, whichever suits the site.

Heating controls — from €210
Thermostats, timers and smart controls, supplied and fitted. Worth doing on an older system: heating rooms you are not in, at times you are not there, is the most common way people waste money on gas.
There is also a €700 SEAI grant towards upgrading heating controls, for homes built and occupied before 2011. It is one of the few heating grants that still applies to a gas house — the boiler grants stopped in January 2025.

- How much does a gas boiler service cost?
- €103, including the certificate and VAT. That is the price you pay — there is nothing added on afterwards.
- What do you charge to come out and look at a boiler?
- €50 to come out and have a look, which is about the first ten minutes. If it turns out to be something I can sort there and then, it is €80 for the hour in total — not €50 on top of that. All prices include VAT.
- How much is a new gas boiler fitted?
- From €1,800 for a straight like-for-like swap — same type of boiler, same position, no changes to the rest of the system. Anything more involved than that I price after I have seen it, rather than guessing over the phone.
- Do you charge more in the evenings or at weekends?
- The out-of-hours call-out is €150. Normal hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and I do take emergency calls outside them.
- Which towns do you cover?
- Charleville and the area around it — Ballyhea, Newtownshandrum, Dromina, Buttevant, Liscarroll and Freemount in Co. Cork, and Kilmallock and Bruree in Co. Limerick. If you are not sure whether you are in it, ring and ask.
- Do you do oil boilers or heat pumps?
- No. Gas and LPG only. I would rather tell you that straight away than waste your time, and there are people locally who do oil.
- My house is not on the gas mains. Can you still help?
- Yes — a good part of the work around here is LPG rather than natural gas. That covers bulk tanks and cylinder installations, and I am Calor approved.
- Which makes of boiler do you work on?
- Any make. I am an approved installer for Calor, Vaillant, Glow-worm and Worcester Bosch, and trained on the rest.
- What hours do you work?
- Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and I take emergency calls outside those hours at the out-of-hours rate.
- Is there a grant for a new gas boiler?
- No. Since 1 January 2025 SEAI no longer funds gas or oil boiler replacement under any of its schemes — the heating grants now go to heat pumps. There is still a €700 SEAI grant towards upgrading your heating controls, for homes built and occupied before 2011, and controls are something I fit.
